IUST: Sen. Markey: Big Tech will use trade as ‘backdoor’ to avoid AI regulation

Large U.S. technology companies, and trade associations that represent them, are lobbying Capitol Hill to avoid artificial intelligence regulations and extending that push to digital trade provisions in ongoing trade negotiations, which could undercut or prevent governments from acting, Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) charged on Thursday, echoing a new advocacy group report that accuses “Big Tech” of “seeking to commandeer” such talks to undermine regulatory efforts.
