It’s hard to decide what the craziest aspect of Trump’s threat to impose 50% tariffs on $20 billion worth of Canadian imports is. Their logic? Trump’s backdown? The administration’s trolling about bringing back the XL Pipeline? The tariffs — covering wine, dairy, cement, furniture, and hockey gear — were set to take effect at 12:01 am Wednesday. Then, roughly 90 minutes before the deadline, Trump announced on Truth Social that he was pausing the tariffs for three days because the U.S. and Canada “have a DEAL!”
