Jess Huang serves as the Digital Communications Manager for Rethink Trade.
Previously, Jess was the California Initiative Director and Communications Manager for Pay Our Interns, where she led successful legislative campaigns that secured millions in state and federal funding for paid internship programs, including a recurring $3 million initiative supporting community college students in state government roles.
A former political staffer and speechwriter, Jess developed and implemented communications strategies adopted across the California State Legislature during the COVID-19 pandemic to strengthen public access and transparency for all constituents.
Her work has been featured in The Los Angeles Times, USA Today, and other national outlets. She also previously wrote a civic-engagement newsletter reaching over 2,000 subscribers for political staffers and advocates, which provided timely, weekly analysis on policy and democracy issues.
She holds degrees from the University of California, Irvine, King’s College London, and Johns Hopkins University, as well as a language certificate from Princeton University. She has been recognized as a University of Bath Institute for Policy Research Fellow and was nominated for a GAIN Powerful IDEA Award for Transformational Talent and Leadership in 2023.
