Rethink Trade Congratulates Roxanne Brown on Election as International President of the United Steelworkers Union
Washington, D.C. — In response to the announcement today of the results of the United Steelworkers’ (USW) leadership elections, Lori Wallach, Director of the Rethink Trade program at the American Economic Liberties Project, said:
“Congratulations to Roxanne Brown, an outstandingly smart and strategic labor leader, on her election to lead the United Steelworkers union, and congratulations to the whole USW membership for choosing a visionary leader and relentless fighter for working people to be your tenth president.
Roxanne Brown has an internal compass that always points true for working people. She also has the smarts, savvy, and experience to translate that into effective leadership — something the 850,000 USW members nationwide, members of Congress, U.S. presidents, foreign leaders, and unionists from around the globe have experienced firsthand as she’s traveled the country and the world fighting for working people in general and USW members in particular.”

The American Economic Liberties Project works to ensure America’s system of commerce is structured to advance, rather than undermine, economic liberty, fair commerce, and a secure, inclusive democracy. Economic Liberties believes true economic liberty means entrepreneurs and businesses large and small succeed on the merits of their ideas and hard work; commerce empowers consumers, workers, farmers, and engineers instead of subjecting them to discrimination and abuse from financiers and monopolists; foreign trade arrangements support domestic security and democracy; and wealth is broadly distributed to support equitable political power.
